As a simple-minded amateur artist, and young industry professional, I get frustrated when the value-chain becomes polluted with middle-men.

Where does the money go? Who gets what? I want to see figures!

I would argue that within the digital realm, such abstraction is more difficult, less common, than in the old paradigm. I would argue, also, that the digital economy surrounding creativity will eventually be much kinder to the creators, and give fans a very real and meaningful experience.
