TuneRights at The Creators Conference

The Creators Conference was held at Hotel Rival in Stockholm. It was the first international conference arranged by the creators themselves. The conference was divided into three panel discussions:

Which Way? - about future technical choices of paths;
And the Middlemen? - about future key roles in our industry; and
So, do you want it? - about future consumers’ needs.

Of course TuneRights attended this important event, mostly to feel the vibe of the creators and music industry professionals. Discussions were mainly focused on how creators can get paid and how more fair or just deals could be made. A great mistrust of the major labels seeped through the discussions.

Bennett Lincoff spoke about how the laws of the music industry need to change to open up for more players in distribution etc. Read more. TuneRights is all for simplifying the laws and making them understandable. Bennett's proposal is surely a part of the future solution.

Not much thought was put into what the audience wanted, how, why or when. Not until the last panel discussion when Gustaf Josefsson spoke about how the Internet has changed it all, and how we all need to adapt to the new terms.

Some voices were raised when Gustaf praised the Internet and spoke about adaptation and how the Internet is revolutionizing the music industry. Are the composers and creators afraid of change?

We think that the music industry and the creators behind it need to think more about the audience, how their patterns are changing and what they want!

A very interesting day as a whole. One thing is certain; it will take time for change to occur. Is TuneRights the solution? We think that TuneRights is a part of the solution, or ONE of many solutions that will blossom in the coming years. The beauty of TuneRights is that it is compatible with any model the industry comes up with. TuneRights will add value to the creator's business regardless of what may come in the future.
